Overview
Employees who abuse alcohol and drugs (including illegal drugs, prescription drugs, and over-the-counter drugs) can pose significant and wide-ranging problems for their employers and fellow employees.
This event highlights the actions employers can take to manage workplace drug and alcohol issues confidently and effectively.
Business need
Alcohol and drug misuse can be an expensive problem for employers resulting in loss of productivity, increased absenteeism, injuries, fatalities, theft and low employee morale. It can also lead to an increase in legal liabilities and workers’ compensation costs.
It’s therefore important that employers are aware of their responsibilities and the actions that can be taken to minimise the effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
Delegates attending this event will gain an understanding of the relevant law and the possible warning signs of employee drug and alcohol misuse. We will focus on how to discuss misuse with employees and the relevant support available, along with sharing practical guidance on screening employees and developing a workplace drugs and alcohol policy.
