How can you help to support all children in Southend achieve success? Find out how you can support through your organisation

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and the Southend & Thurrock Careers Hub are delighted to offer all employers and organisations this Employer Engagement Conference for free.

In Southend alone, there are 450 young people who are in care or being support having been in care. By supporting them through your business or organisation, you can help all young people succeed.

Young people who have been in care often have built excellent life skills, such as resilience, self-motivation, understanding procedures and system, plus more. They can bring a wealth of skills and experience to your organisation.

At this event, hear from local professionals, young people and the Care Leaver Covenant to find the options for the support you can offer. Pledge support through the nationally recognised Care Leaver Covenant in any of 5 areas: Independent living; education, employment and training; safety and security; mental and physical health; and finance. See examples from the likes of Metro Bank and Engie here.

During the event employers will have the opportunity to hear from:

  • Local young care leavers giving their perspective of what their hopes, dreams and challenges they see for the future
  • Mark Riddell MBE, the National Implementation Adviser for Care Leavers
  • Local services available to provide support direct to employers including the Department for Work and Pensions and the local Care Leavers Team
  • The Care Leavers Covenant, a national inclusion programme that supports care leavers aged 16-25 to live independently by creating meaningful opportunities in five key areas including employment and training, health, and finance.
